YIK Shu Ying
Shu Ying is a Partner in the Intellectual Property department.
She graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2011, and was called to the Singapore bar in 2012.
Shu Ying handles a broad range of corporate and advisory work, covering contractual matters, data protection, intellectual property, medical negligence, directors’ duties, landlord/tenant and property law, as well as wills, trusts, probate and estate administration. She also has a keen interest in the intersection of law, technology and data, and holds both the Certified Information Privacy Professional Europe (CIPP/E) and (Asia) (CIPP/A) certifications from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
Some of the matters that she has acted in include:
- Acting for multiple Chinese individuals in a $25M claim involving fraudulent misrepresentation made in contracts for immigration services
- Acting for a commercial landlord and successfully resisting a $250,000/- claim in alleged misrepresentation in the marketing of available units for lease
- Acting for a company in the steel industry and succeeding in a High Court trial against errant directors for breach of directors’ duties
- Advising on the administration of a will trust involving assets of $200M
- Acting in applications for Grant of Probate, Grant of Letters of Administration, Resealing of Foreign Grants, applications under the Mental Capacity Act for deputyship and registration of foreign deputyship orders
- Drafting of wills and will trusts, advising on and certifying Lasting Power of Attorneys
- Advising and acting for various companies in landlord and tenant disputes including recovery of security deposit, rental arrears, double rent, writs of distress, seizure of premises, COVID-19 reliefs
- Acting for and successfully defending the homeowners in an appeal brought by a Management Corporation before the High Court in relation to the liability to maintain
